Behind the Mineral Tables

From raw Bianco Curia marble to unique designs.

Join us on our journey to the Italian province of Pesaro e Urbino to explore how raw blocks of natural Bianco Curia marble are turned into our beautiful Mineral Tables.

CONTRASTING STATEMENT PIECES

Our collection of Mineral Tables includes elegant Bianco Curia marble that makes an impactful statement in the home. While the Mineral Sculptural Table is made entirely from marble and is characterised by its distinctive T-shape and contrasting polished surfaces, the Mineral Coffee Table features a smooth, rectangular glass top placed on a base of two marble blocks. Both tables get their unique expression from their raw marble edges, which have been hand chiselled by a skilled artisan.

PRODUCING THE MINERAL TABLES

Nestled in between the mesmerising mountains of Acqualagna, you will find the small family-owned factory that produces our Mineral Tables. The factory was founded in 1969, and the thirteen skilled artisans who work there are all experts at their craft.

The Bianco Curia marble used for our Mineral Tables comes from a quarry in Brescia, a city located in the Lombardy Region in Northern Italy. At the quarry, large slabs of marble weighing approximately 4,5 tons are cut out, examined, and quality checked before they are shipped to the factory.

Arriving at the factory in Acqualagna, one quickly gets lost in an irresistible maze of raw slabs of natural marble and stone. With colours ranging from the deepest of reds to the purest of whites, each stone features unique veins and details formed entirely by the strong forces of nature. At the family-owned factory, it is the father that chooses which marble slabs that are good enough for production. It is only slabs of Bianco Curia marble with a specific high quality that are selected for our Mineral Tables. The father has worked with marble for many years, and by knocking on the marble slabs, he is instantly able to hear whether the slab is of great quality or not.

Once selected, the large marble slabs are cut into smaller pieces by a specialised cutting machine. The machine has a large blade, which slowly cuts through the stone while the blade is kept cool by a constant stream of cold water. After being cut, the distinctive edges of the marble elements are chiselled by hand by one skilled artisan working at the factory. Becoming an expert in working with marble and stone is a lifelong process that begins after approximately two to three years of training. The artisan who hand chisels the edges of our Mineral Coffee Tables and Mineral Sculptural Tables have 30 years of experience working with marble and stone. Finally, each piece of marble is carefully polished to make the surface as smooth as possible, and the marble is given its final finish before it is ready for assembly.

VALUABLE RESOURCES

Italy is known for their strict regulations for harvesting marble, and nothing is more important than preserving nature’s resources. By law, it is not allowed to harvest more than 30% of any marble quarry before it must be closed and replanted.

Knowing that marble is a limited resource, the factory uses all the waste from production. Larger pieces of leftover marble are used for cladding surfaces of buildings, and smaller pieces are used for roads. The factory has also installed an internal circular water system - ensuring that all water from the cutting process is reused.
